The Renaissance took place from 1300s – 1600s. The word
Renaissance means rebirth. The Renaissance was a rejuvenation of
art, due to the decline of quality in art. During the Renaissance
many artists began to think of non-secular matters. The new form
of art was called humanism.
Artist: Michelangelo - Italian (1475-1564) Michelangelo was
amazed with the human body and was devoted to mastering the
art of it. He studied many works including Donatello and the ancient
Greek and Roman arts. His most prized work was the painting on
the ceiling of the Sistine chapel in the Vatican. The display on the
ceiling was entirely concerned with religious figures. He helped to lead
art during the high Renaissance.
